Dr
Asma Fozia Qureshi: Takemi Fellow ( Harvard School of Public
Health), FCPS
( College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan ), DCH ( Royal College
of Physicians & Surgeons, Glasgow), MBBS ( Dow Medical College ,
Karachi ).
Dr Qureshi has extensive experience in clinical pediatrics and is a major contributor to the development of Family Medicine and Community Health in Pakistan . She has held positions of responsibility as Dean of Public Health and Dean of Family Medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan; in addition she served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the Ziauddin University in Karachi . For 17 years she held a cross appointment in the Departments of Community Health and Paediatrics at the Aga Khan University and continues her association as Honorary Professor. She contributed to the design and had the lead in implementing the field-based, community oriented approach to health that has distinguished the AKU programme. She is a distinguished educationist and trainer who is well-versed in the theory and practice of social sector development including research in the fields of public health and medicine. She has contributed to several national and international programmatic assessments and evaluations with policy implications for organizations including the WHO, UNICEF, World Bank, Department for International Development (DFID), USAID and the Population Council. She has served as advisor on key public health and education issues in Pakistan and internationally and is well known in government and non-government social sector institutions in Pakistan . She has several indexed publications as well as reports to her credit. In 2004 Dr Qureshi was honoured with the Fatima Jinnah Award by the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for her services to medicine in Pakistan .
Dr. Ali Thaver MBBS (AKU)
Dr. Ali Thaver has been a Program Research Officer at Mustashaar for a year now. He is a medical graduate of the Aga Khan University and for the past 6 years has been actively involved in public health and policy oriented research. Ali's research interests mainly revolve around Infectious Diseases and Maternal and Child Health. At Mustashaar, Ali has been a core member of our team, actively involved in analyzing data, report writing and presentation. Currently he is a Masters in Public Health student at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
Ms Amna Farooqui Arsalan (Financial Consultant)
Ms Amna Arsalan is a graduate of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, with a major in Finance. Additionally she is an affiliate of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), awaiting membership. Her area of interest is in financial management, including investment appraisal, budgeting and forecasting, financial monitoring and reporting. She has in the past conducted financial assessment and budgetary reviews as a financial consultant for local organisations in the health sector. For the past 10 years, she has been teaching finance and accounting courses at graduate level at SZABIST Islamabad Campus.

Mr. Chaudhury is one of the founder directors of East West University . He had worked as chief technical and regional advisor to various UN agencies from July 1984 to June 2004. Prior to that he held academic positions at several American and British universities, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Brown University , Boston University , and University of Sussex . He was also a Research Director, Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS). Currently, Mr.Chaudary is affiliated with a pioneering NGO in Bangladesh , Gonoshayastha Kendra (GK), as an honorary advisor in its research division. Mr. Chaudhury has published several books and articles on population and development issues on countries such as Bangladesh , Bhutan , Ethiopia , India , Iran , Maldives , Nepal , and Sri Lanka
Dr. Shafqat Shehzad; PhD in Economics, University of Sussex , MPhil Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad
Dr. Shafqat Shehzad is a pioneering health economist in Pakistan. She obtained her PhD in Economics from the University of Sussex , England. She did her M.Sc and M.Phil in Economics from the Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad. Dr. Shehzad has worked extensively in the area of child health both at the macro and micro levels. Her work relates to exploring various aspects of child health including infant and child mortality across developing countries, factors determining child survival in Pakistan and measurement models for child's unobservable health status. Dr. Shehzad has also worked on economic evaluation of health care programs that aim at providing early intervention to hard of hearing children in Canada. Dr Shehzad has presented her work internationally in prestigious conferences on population and health economics held in Hawaii, Istanbul, York, and Hong Kong. Currently, Dr. Shehzad is developing an integrated program on health related issues in Pakistan extending her work not only in the Southern context but outlook for the North. Her research covers child health, gender and health disparities, health and environment, and macro-economic aspects of health. Dr. Shehzad has published her work on issues relating to health unobservability, health measurement, cross-country comparisons of infant and child mortality, health care financing, and gender sensitive budgeting in Pakistan. Prior to joining SDPI, Dr. Shehzad was Assistant Professor of Economics Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad and adjunct faculty, Fatima Jinnah University, and Health Services Academy, Ministry of Health.
Dr. Sareer Ara (MBBS , MBA , DTCD ,DTM)
Fifteen years extensive management
and programming experience in preventative health programmes for
refugees and settled population in Tanzania , Nigeria , and Pakistan
, and clinical experience in United Kingdom & Republic of Ireland.
Experienced in designing, planning, implementing, supervising and
monitoring health & nutrition programmes for children, women and
young people with the UN system and International NGOs. Knowledge of
Human Rights based approach to Programming. Knowledge and experience
in various areas of HIV/AIDS prevention programmes in both high &
low prevalence countries. Special interest in Early Child hood
Development especially in the context of increasing prevalence of
HIV/AIDS in various parts of the world. In addition to advocacy,
negotiation and analytical skills ; well developed skills in
organizing workshops and training programmes for technical and
programme administration areas. Development of teaching aids &

Dr. Laila Salim:MPH, Harvard and PhD, University of Toronto .
Dr. Laila Salim is a
Research Associate at the Centre for International Health,
University of Toronto . She possesses an MPH in International Health
from Harvard School of Public Health and a PhD in health policy,
management and evaluation from the University of Toronto . She has
worked for more than 15 years in international development
organization and a medical university involved in implementing
community based health care in Pakistan . Dr. Salim has also worked
in University of Toronto's projects focusing on collaborative
practice in health care, integrating allied health professionals
into primary care network/group, and strengthening health delivery
systems. Her specific areas of expertise include program
development, monitoring and evaluation, human resource management
and operations research.
Shen Husain
BA Psychology ( Cornell University , 2002), MSc Health, Community and Development ( London School of Economics and Political Science, 2006).
Ms Husain is a graduate of Cornell University and one of the first graduates (with Merit) of the Masters in Health, Community and Development program of the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science. This is the only LSE programme that focuses on a grassroots approach to health promotion with the objective of creating a social psychology of community participation. She has over five years of work experience in Dubai, Pakistan and the US including two years of part-time work at Cornell University during which she served as resident advisor, peer counselor and mediator. She was honoured as a nominee of the Cornell University Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary for the top 1% of residence hall leaders, and for two years she chaired the UAE Committee of the Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassadors Network.
Dr. Rukannuddin has more than 45 years work experience in the field of Population and Development; Reproductive Health and Family Planning (RH/FP); Program Administration and Management; Monitoring and Evaluation, identifying RH/FP program needs and management surveys & studies; Poverty, Status of Women and Gender Inequality; Human Resource Development; Research & Evaluation surveys.He supervised and guided more than 25 professionals in their work. He has experience in implementing ESCAP’s several regional projects in selected countries of the region. He has organized training workshops in national capacity building in ESCAP headquarters and in the selected countries of the region. Responsible for organizing expert group meetings/workshops on program management, adolescents and youth, implications for elderly population, status of women & gender issues, RH/FP indicators, population, environment and sustainable development and poverty alleviation.Dr. Rukannuddin has offered several technical advisory services both in local and international capacities.He has authored individually and/or jointly (or on Institution’s name) more than 100 publications in the form of Asia-Pacific Research Series (UN Publications), articles, research papers, monographs, papers contributed to edited books and country/background papers prepared for the conferences, seminars and meetings.
Mr. Qadeer Baig,
Masters in “Management of NGOs, London School of Economics (LSE);
and Masters in Statistics and Economics, Pakistan.
Qadeer Baig is currently working as Country Representative of World
Population Fund.Previously he was working as National Manager,
Pakistan National AIDS Consortium (PNAC), Islamabad . At PNAC, he
led implementation of Tameer project namely, ‘Building-up Rights
Based Approaches to HIV and AIDS in Pakistan’ with support from
European Commission and DFID. Prior to PNAC, Mr. Baig worked with
the NGO Resource Centre (NGORC), a project of the Aga Khan
Foundation for about 15 years in various capacities and was leading
a high-skilled multi-disciplinary NGORC team of about 20
professionals.
Dr. Shaikh Tanveer Ahmed, MPH
Dr. Tanveer is a highly charged, innovative and committed personality. His unique experience of working as Public health professional is spread in a canvas of more than twenty years, during this period he has been working with a donor agency USAIDS, Health Department-Government of Sindh. He is working for leading Non Governmental Organization – HANDS from last twelve years. He has exposed to innumerate number of public health related training courses both nationally & internationally during this period. All of these training have given him the skills, which made him to drive a tiny Non Government Organization in to one of the largest Non Government Organization of the country in a short span of twelve years.
Dr. Tariq
Dr. Tariq has a background of medicine and population studies with a
desired mix of technical, financial and administrative management
skills. He has been key support while initiating and implementing
FHI’s operations in Pakistan . He has a special interest in Health
Systems Strengthening. He specializes in HIV/STI program design,
resource development especially SBC, STI, CHBC, Continuum of Care,
workplace interventions; implementation, capacity building of
partner organizations; M&E with extensive field experience. For the
past twelve years, he has provided technical assistance and training
to health care professionals and partner organizations on proposal
writing; BCC strategy development, process monitoring and quality
assurance, process management, integration of STI service delivery,
peer education, family planning, syndromic management of STIs,
emergency contraception, post abortion care and micro-nutrition.
Prior to joining FHI he was an HIV/AIDS Specialist with PSI/Greenstar,
where he provided support to HIV/AIDS policy formulation, STI
strategic planning, team development, research and evaluation of the
national programs. He developed process and impact monitoring tools
applicable at levels of information and service delivery. Further
his areas of specialization include social franchising; family
planning; STI product development and resource mobilization. He
recently conducted assessment of a community maternal and child
health project for BHP Billiton.
Dr. Sadaf Akram is a medical graduate and has been working in the field of Public Health for the last four years now. She has to her credit of working with various international and national NGOs working in health sector in Pakistan like Islamic Relief, The Asia Foundation and Plan International.
Dr Syed Hussain Hadi; MPH
Dr. Hadi has is a medical graduate and has done his masters (MPH) in 2001. He has to his credit the clinical experience of 15 years within the primary health care system and occupational health.He has been holding senior level health management position for more than 5 years. Dr. Hadi is skilled in project management, developing training modules, project proposals, M&E tools, survey and research protocols. His expertise also lies in desk and field monitoring and evaluation. His areas of special interest are: TB, HIV/AIDS and disaster management.
Mr. Imran Arain: MA (Development Economics), MBA (Marketing), Pakistan MPH, Liverpool
Mr. Arain is
currently working with National Health Services Scotland the UK as
Health Improvement Officer looking after all public health programs
in Dumfries and Galloway NHS Board (September 2005 to date). He had
worked with Marie Stopes International for more then 5 years at
three different posts Program Coordinator-Youth(July 2003 to July
2004), IEC & Marketing Manager (July 2001 to June 2003) and Project
Manager (February 1999 to June 2001). Mr. Arain has wide variety of
experience in public health field including health research, program
planning, management, monitoring and evaluation. His main areas of
expertise are: health research both qualitative and quantitative,
health promotion and protection, impact evaluation, advertising and
marketing for health, training and development in the areas of
sexual and reproductive health, diet and nutrition, physical, mental
and social health and inequalities in health focusing on broader
determinants of health. He has specialized in the field of health
promotion and prevention. He has to his credit a number of research
papers at international level on sexual and reproductive health and
cancers.
Ms. Nayab Azizi , MA International Relations and MPH
Ms. Azizi is a public health scientist with a professional background in Social Community Development, Gender Reproductive Health, and Management Information System (MIS). Her particular expertise includes Behavior Change Communication, Advocacy, gender mainstreaming and policy formulation, Designing community- based/led interventions and strategies. Her expertise lies in individual and group counseling skills and techniques. She has extensively assisted ''Devolution Plan'' by organizing capacity building workshops, and Advocacy Seminars on Gender, Health and Development for Nazims, and Women Counselors in Baluchistan province. Her recently presented and published research papers in national and international conferences were mainly on Gender, Reproductive Health, and gender-specific HIV/AIDS Issues in Pakistan . She possess excellent training, teaching and facilitation skills and have organized numerous training of trainers ToTs) on Communication, Gender, Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS, Counseling, Behavior Change Communication, MIS, Project-Cycle Management and Logical framework.
Wasiq is presently working with the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) in a supportive position to Ministry of Health-Government of Pakistan’s National Tuberculosis Control Programme as Senior Behavior Change Communication (BCC) Specialist. He holds postgraduate degrees in Management and Marketing/Communications from reputed International Islamic University Islamabad. He has been associated with non-governmental organizations in various capacity including programme manager, communications manager, researcher and public relations expert. He has consulted with different international and national institutions including World Bank, USAID, JSI/JHU-CCP, Concern Worldwide, Diakonie Emergency Aid, BHP Billiton, German Agro Action.. Dr. Qudsia started her career from academics and is affiliated to a prestigious teaching institute of Karachi , Pakistan . She has a vast experience of teaching, training and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students in the field of public health and primary care. She is also an Associate Editor of the Journal of Pakistan Medical Association; have a sound knowledge on conducting research and have publications in indexed journals. She is also experienced in quantitative and qualitative research and survey research methods. She is experienced in data management, analysis and report writing.
Mr. Ahmad has a vast experience in various fields of Business particularly the pharmaceutical industry. He has been a Director and CEO of a distribution company which has been distributor for lever brothers and Pharmacia and Upjohn (a big multinational pharmaceutical company). He has been involved also in complete working for erection of a pharmaceutical plant including all stages from grant of permission till the final plant erection. Mr. Ahmad has to his credit an experience of pharmaceutical marketing which includes product launching ceremonies, organizing and conducting workshops on products and diseases, and conducting focus group discussions. He was also Director and CEO of a pay phone company, thus have a thorough knowledge in the field of information technology. His hobbies include reading books and news, watching sports and news channel, playing cricket, and being updated on current affairs.
Mr. Zaeem Lutfi is a graduate of Lahore University of Engineering and Technology is Mechanical Engineer by profession . He brings more than 20 yrs of international and Pakistan specific experience of Project Management .Over the course of his career Zaeem has completed several projects in the automobile industry which has given significant out put in this industry . Among the highlights of Zaeem’s Project Management efforts is successful completion of Arabian Sea Country Club Project, the biggest and most well established Golf Club in Karachi. He also has a skill and ability to take ownership of small projects, with extensive experience managing and coordinating international donor funded programs . He has also spent a considerable amount of time in his carrier for the quality improvement and joint strategic vision as central tents of projects and organizational reforms. He also possesses an experience of Social and community work building the capacities of communities so as to make them useful and self sustainable. Dr. Danyal H. Thaver (MBBS)
Dr. Danyal has been associated with Mustashaar as a Research Associate since March, 2013. He is a medical graduate of the Aga Khan University where he was at the forefront of student led research activities. His areas of research interest include non-communicable diseases in children such as congenital heart conditions and learning disabilities. He has also been involved in projects related to community development and financing of MNCH services. Along with his research interests, he is planning to pursue further training in clinical pediatrics
